Graham Norton Needs Irish Dancers!!!

Graham Norton is back on the road looking for new contestants to compete in a the second series - to be broadcast this year.

The Popular Pop-Idol style show, specifically for dancers, is set to be back on UK television screens later this year – and programme makers want to hear from the Irish.

Application for the auditions for the show have been flooding in but producers say the Irish community is under represented.

Assistant producer for Strictly Dance Fever, Paul Jacobs, wants as many Irish people to come forward as possible.

He said ‘I’m sure there are some fantastic Irish people out there with a real talent for dancing. We want to hear from all of them! We would really love to see some Gaelic charm at the auditions. ‘

‘We want people to come along to an audition and perform some Irish dance or any form of dance. We want some diversity’

Strictly Dance Fever – hosted by Irish funny man Graham Norton – will be travelling up and down the country looking for the next best thing in dance.

Individuals or pairs can audition so if you don’t fancy going solo then grab a partner and get dancing.

All styles from Irish dance to salsa will be considered but only non-professional dancers should apply. The competitions is for average people to show off their talent and to be given an opportunity to shine.

Mr Jacobs said ‘This is not about celebrities dancing the waltz.’

‘From Hip-Hop to Hispanic, Break-dance to Bolero, Flamenco to Irish - we want people to turn up get down’

You will need to apply for the auditions at the following locations:

BIRMINGHAM: closing date Monday 6th February 2006

MANCHESTER: closing date Monday 13th February 2006

CARDIFF: closing date Monday 20th February 2006

And all auditions will be filmed – warts and all in true Pop Idol fashion.

The best performers will then go forward to a studio competition where dancers will be pitted against each other every week with the worst dance act being voted off by the public.

The overall winner will receive a prize of £50,000 – so even if your toe- tapping days are not what it should be, it is definitely worth a try.
